Work in Progress... Digipack

This is my Digipack so far as the rest of the images are coming from photo-shoots when we film. For example, the band which we plan to film next monday so I should be able to get those images on here after then and the powder paint fight which isn't planned to take place for a couple of weeks.

25/11/11 CHANGE OF PLAN

In today's lesson we went to go and film the band but unfortunately, they were very busy with their own work, so we rearranged the date to film to monday 28/11/11.

New plan:

Friday 25th November Period 1 & 2:
Keep blogging, add some more things to Digipack.

Monday 28th November Period 5:
Film the band in the Recording Studio in the Music Department, this could run after school as well if it takes longer than planned. Also, take some pictures of the band to use for my Digipack and Poster.

Friday 2nd December Period 1 & 2:
Depending on whether we get a reply from Morrissons in time, we plan to film in their store for the trolley sequence. However, if we can't then I will be able to use my images from the photo-shoot to help nearly finish my Digipack design and Poster design.

PLAN 25/11/11

Friday 25th November Period 1 & 2:
Film the band performing in the recording studio in the music department. We have already asked for permission and they said we can do it whenever we want.

Monday 28th November Period 5:
Whilst we're filming on the 25th I will ask if I would be able to do a photo-shoot of the band for my digipack for today.

Friday 2nd December Period 1 & 2:
Depending on whether we get a reply from Morrissons in time, we plan to film in their store for the trolley sequence. However, if we can't then I will be able to use my images from the photo-shoot to help nearly finish my Digipack design and Poster design.

Journal 23/11/11

We took some screenshots of what we filmed last friday:

All we managed to get done were the lines 'She told me that her Dad was loaded, I said in that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola, She said fine.' We filmed it continuously which was quite hard because we had to make sure that we got it right and perfect straight away otherwise we would have to keep filming till we got it right, which could have taken a long time. Although we were only filming 3 people doing 3 lines so it wasn't that hard to control.

We have spoken to the music department and the band and we plan on filming this friday (25/11/11). Also, we've spoken to our teachers about getting 'insurance' so we can send off a letter to 'Morrissons' so that we can film in there for the scene where we make an intertextual reference to Pulp's actual music video.

Journal 18/11/11

We have decided to change the date of the powder paint fight to the day after (11/12/11). This is because we were starting to worry about the amount of people that actually work on saturdays as they're all during the daytime when we would want to film, so a lot of people might not actually turn up.

Journal 16/11/11

Today we created an event on facebook for our friends to see whether they can make it to the powder paint fight or not.

We did invite a lot of people but this was just to ensure that enough people turned up. It is planned to happen on the 10th December. We've also been in contact with supermarkets to see whether we would be allowed to film in their store. Morrisons have said that we need to write them a letter and inform them of our insurance. We would either like to film this scene on either friday 18th november or friday 25th. It will most likely be friday 25th because it may be too late by the time we get a reply about filming.

Journal 15/11/11

Screenshots from filming:

We filmed from many different angles so that we would be able to have a decision which one to put in. We ended up only filming the narrative of 'playing some pool' because after the feedback from our pitch we decided that we wanted to have more people that were from the two 'gangs' singing more lines of the song before they got to the powder fight. So we are cutting some parts of the narrative out, for example, 'rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job' and the lines about the cockroaches.

So we want to have more of a continuous video, for example, someone sings a line then opens a door to go into a building and someone walks out of it to sing the next line.

Pitch Feedback

This is feedback from our pitch:

2x "Well on the way to Box Office success"

2x "It definitely has potential"

These are the comments from 'the elements that work are':
Concept
Visuals
Ideology + all fitting together
The powder fight (make sure you get lots of footage of it)
The powder fight sounds amazing will be tough to pull it off
Lots of visuals and lyric relationships
Different idea
Good paint/colour fight at the end
Clear & good intertextual references
Works well

These are the comments from 'things that need developing are':
Get permission from ASDA for trolley sequence
Health & safety check (paint in eye etc.)
Perhaps have 2 'gangs' moving together earlier in video
The trolley part is in the original video , try to put a spin on it?
Trolley idea
Just make sure the powder scene works

These are the comments from 'things that don't work are':
A little too much of the visual relationships with the lyrics

I am really pleased with with the positive feedback and criticisms that we got from our pitch. It seemed that everyone enjoyed it and were positive about our idea. We will be looking into the gangs being in it more as that was our initial idea but it just didn't come through in our storyboard. I think now we will be removing some of the scenes where it is pure narrative and maybe some shots of the band that are in the middle of the song.

Fonts for my Digipack album title

These are for the title of the album that will appear on the front cover of the Digipack.

I wanted one that was in capitals and like someone hand wrote it, but this was all I could find and now I don't like as I don't think it fits in with the rest of my Digipack.

I liked this one because the letters were rounded which meant that it would relate to the font of the band title and the rest of the Digipack.

I also really liked this one for the rounded letters but also because of the letter 's' in it as it carried on and reminded me of 'Blur' and their font so it would be like an intertextual reference.

These are the fonts that I need to choose from that will appear as a quote on the actual CD in the Digipack.

I like this one but it seems almost a bit too neat and fancy which isn't what the band is about at all.

I really like this one because it does look like the band could have written it on the disc themselves.

09/11/11 - Our Pitch

This is our pitch that we will be presenting on friday (11/11/11), we kept it fun and colourful so that it reflected the band's ideologies and personalities.

Digipack design

This is the whole of my Digipack design. I think that this fits in with the whole ideology that the band are trying to represent.

Front Cover
I wanted the front cover to be quite neutral and relaxed as that is what the band is and it also fits in with other 'indie' type genre bands. Also, it was important to have them appear on the front cover as the audience need to know who they are and what their style is. I called the album 'Nuclear Physics' as I thought it was quite satirical like the band's persona.
Interior Flap
I think that this works really well because it shows someone having a lot of fun and that they've been messing around with friends. This will be a photo that is taken when we film the powder fight for the actual music video.
Inside Left
I thought this was a really good idea to go on the Digipack as it showed the group having a laugh and having fun with each other, just hanging out and relaxing. Not taking life too seriously, which links in with their ideology. This shot will not be taken when filming as it is not involved in the storyboard, instead there will be a separate photoshoot.

Inside Centre
I chose this for the digipack purely because they are an edgy 'Britpop' band with an 'indie' undertone, so I thought that the Union Jack would be perfect for the band.

Inside Right
I wanted to keep this simple like a lot of other bands have done. I would want it to look like a matte white so that it is kept simplistic but still with an edgy cool look. I included a quote that contains the title of the album which is from their ideology, so that they seem light-hearted and fun.

Back Cover
There is meant to be a backgrond image but you can't see it very clearly because I didn't colour it in. It's of empty bottles and I wanted it to be out of focus so that the attention was mainly on the list of songs. The songs include:

Common People

(It's not) Nuclear Physics
Let's Party
Get Down
Holiday
One of the Lads
What a Man Wants
Superbad

Journal 07/11/11

After getting our Animatics done, we have started our Pitch that we will be presenting to the class. I have finished the design of my Digipack and feel that I am up to date with everything and am ready to start filming. We plan to start filming next week (21/11/11) but this will only be a small section of the song (the narrative to the section where they sing about cutting your hair and playing pool). We now really need to start planning our production schedule so that we can keep to it and will have everything done on time. We will set up an event for the powder fight so that we can get as many people to come as possible. We need to talk to the music department and the band to find out when they're available to film.
