The Finished Final Version

We got some more feedback and so decided to make some minor changes that will hopefully perfect the video. So this is the very final version of the video that we will hand in.

Music Video

This is a version of our music video but we have been advised to make changes so this is not the final piece.

Media Products Evaluation

Fun concepts which are often random and tend to not relate to their lyrics. I believe my music video had a fun concept and created humour, without relating exactly to the lyrics. Another common characteristic of this genre of music videos would be that the lyrics raise a topical issue of concern, that the band/artist feel strongly about. I think that my music video used the topical issue of rich and poor, through the two groups coming together to have a powder paint fight. We used and developed these codes and conventions to keep the video light-hearted and funny without being too serious as the artist’s ideology is all about having fun and not taking life too seriously.

After the feedback shown on the ‘Prezi’ picture, we then edited parts of the powder paint fight so that when the beat got faster so did the clips, we also repeated the use of clips. We have also re-filmed the artist getting powder paint blown at him this will go into the music video just after when Emily blows the powder paint through her hand (so it will basically look like she is blowing the paint on to him). This connects the artist to the powder paint fight so it gives it more meaning.

Finished Digipak...

This is my finalised version of my Digipak. I think it works because of the colour scheme. The genre of the song is Britpop so I used the British flag to link back to it. The colour scheme of the flag is white, red and blue and so the three bottom pictures are the same colours and it helps to tie the whole Digipak together. The font colours are easy to read and stand out on their backgrounds. The many images of the artist help to establish him and the images with the brick backgrounds are effective as they link him back to his music video.

Journal Post 09/03/12

We filmed the artist having powder paint thrown at his face so that once Emily blows paint through her mouth:

It will hit the artist in the face. This will then link the artist to the powder paint fight which will help the rest of our video tie in together. Also, this will help the artist be more established as he is in the video more than he used to be.

Finished Poster...

This is the first finished version of my Poster which I decided still wasn't quite right as I then didn't like the font of the title and it was hard to see the essential parts at the bottom of the poster which tell the audience where they can get the album from.

I then changed the title to the actual title/logo from the album cover and put white blocks behind the essential elements and added the record label so that it fits in with the music video. I like this a lot now and can say that it is finished.

Digipack Progression

After feedback, I decided to remove the powder paint fight image and I have decided to re-shoot specially for my Digipak so that it really relates to my artist. My favourite things about it are the front and back cover which I think work well together and with the music video. When taking photos of the artist again I will do it in a different location so that it doesn't all look the same.

Music Video

This is a version of our music video that we are pleased with but we want more feedback so we can make changes if we need to. We have posted the link to the video on Facebook so that we can get feedback from a lot of people and we've already had many comments. I'm really pleased that we managed to get it finished in time for the deadline and I really like the final result of our video and that we finally have an artist that makes the video what it is. The best thing about the music video has to be the powder paint fight which many people agree with.

Digipack and Poster development

I'm happy with the poster design, I may change one of the powder paint images to show more variety. However, I still want to work on my Digipack as I feel that I need another image of the artist.

Journal 20/02/12

Today we finished filming, after finding someone very reliable that could be our artist and also he was very convincing in his character. I can now finish my Digipack and Poster because we have finally found our artist. After editing the new parts of what we filmed we found that the new artist parts fit perfectly, and its all in sync.

Journal 10/02/12

We filmed a split screen of four people that were in the powder paint fight with a smear of powder paint on their faces so that it was leading up to the powder paint fight.

In this sequence, each person looks in the direction of the next person miming once they have finished their own line.

We have finally found someone reliable that will be the actual singer for our music video and will be filming him today.

Journal 03/02/12

Today we edited more of the video and added more to the powder paint fight by reversing some shots so that there were more effects in there.

We still have quite a few gaps but we plan to film all next week and we have planned it we just hope that the people we want to film will not be too busy. For the first three gaps we plan to have our "lead singer" miming to the words and then the last gap we want to split the screen into four, each person will sing a line and then look in the direction of the next person that will appear on the screen. I really hope that we're able to meet the deadline for next friday as we've got the filming to do and then the editing and then I will have to re-shoot for my Digipack, so I just hope that it all gets finished in time. We have cut the song down, as recommended by our teacher, which means that we still have the same amount of work to do but we have cut off a lot at the end.

We have edited the beginning of our video and we are really pleased with it as it really starts the concept off well (leads up to the powder paint fight).

I think it was filmed really well, we included lots of angles to make it seem more interesting and I think it  shows it leading up to the powder paint fight. Also, we only filmed her legs to add some mystery.

Digipack Progress...

This is my Digipack so far. However, now there are going to be changes to the music video and we will be getting rid of the band shots and using someone else to be the lead singer. So the front cover image and the image of the band destroying their instruments will have to be removed and changed. I think I will use more images from the powder paint fight.

This is my Digipack with a new image from the powder paint fight and so now all I need to do is get an image of the new lead singer and the rest of his band.

Journal 27/01/12

Today we went over the feedback from viewing our music video to the rest of the class and we also discussed it with our teacher. The conclusion that we all came to was to re-film many parts of the music video and remove the band shots and people that weren't in the powder paint fight and also the dance/party shots. We now need to film someone who would be the lead singer of the band, someone who would be just like Jarvis Cocker in Pulp's music video for common people as the whole band isn't in it. That person would be shown almost throughout the video to show they are the main and most important character. Also, we need to use the people from the powder paint fight throughout the video to show a lead up to the fight.

This is all we have left after removing the shots that do not work. We are planning what we need to film for next week so that we can meet the deadline.

Feedback from our music video so far...

Everyone said that our music video "Definitely has potential"

Elements that work are:
  • Paint fight
  • The paint fight was really effective
  • The powder fight
  • Reversing the shot of blowing powder paint
  • Powder fight worked very well
  • Love the slow motion shots and reverse shot of the powder fight
  • Powder paint fight
  • The reverse shot
  • Beginning and ending with Arron.

Things that need developing are:
  • Lip synching
  • Some shots are too long - especially performance
  • Tie it together with more consistency
  • Lip synching at the start
  • Lip synching
  • Lips out of synch
  • Gap needs to be filled
  • beginning needs to be tighter.

Additional feedback included cutting the song down as it seemed too long.

Overall, our best part of the music video is the powder paint fight but we really need to work on the lip synching at the beginning and may need to re-film some parts.

Progress... Of editing

We only have a small amount of the music video to film for so we are happy with our progress. During our feedback it was suggested that we should cut our song down a bit which we are happy to do as it will help us out. Emily made a really good split screen for the powder paint fight which everyone was impressed with.

Images from the Powder Paint Fight...

I thought that the Powder Paint Fight went really well as we got loads of footage and it looks really good with the song.

We may film it again as we have a lot of paint left over and extra footage would help us. We have used most of these images in the music video to go along with the beat.

Progress... 13/01/12

We will be filming at a party on Saturday night (14/01/12) getting people to sing lyrics of the song, drinking and dancing. This will reflect the band's ideology as they love drinking, parties and hanging out with their friends. We want this to be edited as split screens and with effects so that our whole music video isn't just made up of cuts as it could get boring and we feel we need variety. Our last day of filming will be tuesday, which is when we will film the powder paint fight, unless we end up having to re-film. We have checked the weather and it is supposed to just be cloudy and sunny on tuesday. We are going to have to be very quick on tuesday because it still gets dark early so we're only going to have about an hour to get it done.

We have edited and filmed over half of the song and this is how it looks so far on Final Cut Pro:

Finished Poster

I think I've included all the codes and conventions that should be on a poster promoting a Digipack. I wanted to make it humorous because that is what the band is like and that is what the music video is going to be like. I chose a different font to that of the Digipack title because I wanted to show some variety and make them seem more interesting.

Journal 04/01/12

Unfortunately over the Christmas Holidays both me and Emily were too busy to get any extra filming done. However, I still feel that we are on track and will be able to get it all finished and edited in time for the deadline, as we are already editing it and realise that we have half of the song finished and most of the other half will be of the powder paint fight that we need to film.
