Analysis of Evanescence Digipack

Half of the front cover is dark and the other half is like a beam of light entering from the door, this could connote that their music or even the artist is dark but trying to find the light, like she wants to escape from the darkness in her life. The picture is like a narrative as the album's name is called 'The Open Door' and the image is of the artist standing by an open door. This title could also connote to her freedom or something that is missing in her life. The typography of the title is quite gothic which coincides with the genre of the music and artist.

The typography is also quite gothic and alternative on the inside cover. The circle could represent the moon as it links in with the dark and light of the album. There is an insect that looks like a moth above the title which could be to show that as they are nocturnal insects they represent both the darkness and the light of the album as they are attracted to bright lights.

This is the back cover of the digipack and has kept to all the codes and conventions by having a barcode, copyright information and has a list of the songs that are on the album. It looks like the list of songs are on the door from the front cover which has connotations that the artist can see her freedom but still doesn't have it. There are the same representations of light and dark as it looks like night time on the side of the cover but the moon is breaking through the clouds showing the light.
